Low annual rainfall and nutrient poor rocky schist soils creates a stressful growing environment for the vines. This leads to more complexity and better balance.

Located just a 30 minute drive from Queenstown and known locally as the Valley of the Vines, Gibbston Valley is home to a number of boutique wineries which offer cellar door tastings. Here you will find Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris varietals.
Bannockburn is a thriving township based just outside Cromwell in Central Otago (around a 50 minute drive from central Queenstown). With a warm, dry climate in summer and cold sub zero nights in winter this is an ideal wine making area. Pinot Noir is the most well known varietal but Bannockburn vineyards also produce fantastic Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling.
